- Noli me Tangere
The chapel, which takes the form of a small temple, contains a depiction of the meeting between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, which took place near the tomb after the Resurrection. The woman, who has just recognized the risen Christ in the beautiful young man in front of her, is on her knees and holds her hands outstretched. Jesus, as the Gospel of John narrates, asks her not to cling to him ( Noli me tangere : lit. touch me not) because he had not yet ascended to the Father. According to scholars, the statue of Mary Magdalene, depicted with a broad, serene face and naturally loose hair, is reminiscent of the identical figure from the Pietà group located inside the monastery church, and for this reason, it seems to indicate the hand of Agnolo of Polo. The statue of Christ is unfortunately mutilated, due to a theft that occurred in recent times.
