Then, there are also villages, country roads, paths through the woods, parish churches and the ruins of ancient settlements. So get your walking boots and rucksack ready because there\u2019s little chance of getting lost in the Tuscan countryside, since there are numerous well-marked paths and trails indicated on the Green trails network. The sound of your footsteps will guide you. This network, which covers a total area of 83 km, along 6 trails, will allow you to come into contact with the most interesting and unique aspects of the area\u2019s natural heritage and landscape. Also accessible by mountain bike and on horseback, these paths mostly follow a loop, so you can leave your means of transport behind when you start the trail, and you\u2019ll end up right back at the same point at the end of your hike. It is advisable to equip yourself with map of the hiking network, available at the Montaione Tourist Information Office, and a bottle of cold water.<\/p><h3 style=\"color: #784026;\">Trail No. 1<\/h3><p><em><strong>Montaione \u2013 Mannello \u2013 Fornace \u2013 Terraio \u2013 Montaione<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p><strong>Length:<\/strong> 8 km | <strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> easy | <strong>Journey time:<\/strong> 1 hour 30 mins<\/p><p>This loop is made up of three sections on a paved road and two sections that cut through undergrowth and farmland. The first part of the trail retraces the path of the ancient Via Castellana, which linked Montaione to Castelfiorentino and runs along the Orlo stream.<\/p><p><em><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Itinerario-1.gpx\">GPX<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Itinerario-1-ita.pdf\">PDF<\/a><\/em><\/p><h3 style=\"color: #784026;\">Trail No. 2<\/h3><p><em><strong>Montaione \u2013 Bosco Gucci \u2013 Cappella del Lupo \u2013 Castelfalfi \u2013 Sughera \u2013 Piaggia \u2013 Galano \u2013 Montaione<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p><strong>Length:<\/strong> 16 km | <strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> easy | <strong>Journey time:<\/strong> 3 hours 15 mins<\/p><p>This is a relatively easy route, which can be tackled in any season. It includes two fords, where you will have to wade across the Evola stream, and two challenging climbs. It consists of three sections in the forest and two stretches of paved road that connect back to the hiking trail. This trail partly follows the ancient road that the farmers from Piaggia and the surrounding areas used to travel to the village.<\/p><p><em><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Itinerario-2.gpx\">GPX<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Itinerario-2-ita.pdf\">PDF<\/a><\/em><\/p><h3 style=\"color: #784026;\">Trail No. 3<\/h3><p><em><strong>Montaione \u2013 Tre Ponti \u2013 Fiume Egola \u2013 San Vivaldo \u2013 Montaione<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p><strong>DETOUR A, Poggio all\u2019Aglione<\/strong><br \/><strong>Length:<\/strong> 7.8 km | <strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> easy | <strong>Journey time:<\/strong> 2 hours 20 mins<\/p><p><strong>DETOUR B, Pozzo Latino \u2013 Le Tagliate<\/strong><br \/><strong>Length:<\/strong> 3.4 km | <strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> easy | <strong>Journey time:<\/strong> 1 hour<\/p><p><strong>DETOUR C, Fiume Egola \u2013 Montaione<\/strong><br \/><strong>Length:<\/strong> 3.4 km | <strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> easy | <strong>Journey time:<\/strong> 2 hours 20 mins<\/p><p>Rather than a loop, this trail is a small network of routes, which is made particularly interesting due to the possibility of taking a variety of detours and the proximity of places of historical interest en route, such as the <a href=\"\/en\/discover-montaione\/the-jerusalem-of-san-vivaldo\/\">\u201cJerusalem\u201d of San Vivaldo<\/a> and the <a href=\"\/en\/discover-montaione\/roman-cistern\/\">Roman Cistern<\/a>. It mainly consists of trekking through woodland, interspersed with stretches of paved roads connecting the various sections of the trail. It winds its way mainly through wooded areas with interesting lookout points, including the breath-taking panorama that can be enjoyed from the Promontory and Sanctuary of Pietrina.<\/p><p><em><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Itinerario-4.gpx\">GPX<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Itinerario-4-ita.pdf\">PDF<\/a><\/em><\/p><h3 style=\"color: #784026;\">Trail No. 5<\/h3><p><strong><em>Castelfalfi \u2013 Iano \u2013 San Vivaldo \u2013 Vignale \u2013 Cappella del Lupo \u2013 Castelfalfi<\/em><\/strong><br \/><strong><em>Extended route: Capanne \u2013 Vignale Vecchio<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Length:<\/strong> 20.2 km | <strong>Difficulty:<\/strong> easy | <strong>Journey time:<\/strong> 4 hours<\/p><p>This is one of the longest routes, on dirt roads connected by sections of paved roads. Two tangential loops run through open countryside between ravines and areas of farmland. Great for mountain biking. It leads through a particularly interesting area, the forest and ravines of Collegalli, with stunning scenery and natural surroundings.
